You are saying there is some kind of electronics comparator circuitry inside a device that lives in the exhaust dowpipe just beyond a turbo that can glow orange?
I was under the impression that the oxygen sensor doesn't do any computing itself, rather, it simply reacts chemically/mechanically with the air flowing over it, and sends a voltage through the wiring, corresponding to the level of oxygen in the exhaust. I thought it was up to the fuel injection (or Trionic, for cars thus equipped) ECU to decide what that voltage means?
If you're right, this is very interesting, and the first I've ever heard of it! I didn't experience any problems after using a soldered lead O2 sensor, nor did I have problems soldering to the wires... I use crimp now though, more convenient, faster, and easier.
