Popping in new bearings and turning down a commutator is not that hard with the correct parts and equipment.
I'm amazed that you were able to drive that car home. i think that your battery is probably damaged beyond redemption however.
Meanwhile, my battery was completely dead this morning, would not even accept a charge from my 6 amp charger, so I tried my little 1 amp charger and it started accepting a charge -now charging on the 6 amp charger. This battery is one year old, but was discharged previously when the brake lights stuck on.
