Just to close this one out....
I took both of my alternators, my "spare" from the 93 CSE and my "failed" one that died in the 97 Aero, to AutoZone to have them tested. The 93 failed the test and the 97 "failed" one PASSED. I bought a voltage regulator and changed the VR in the 93 and it FAILED again. I had the 97 unit tested again and it passed again. I have no idea what happened or why it stopped charging last weekend. The only thing I did was take the VR out to inspect the brushes and slip rings, cleaned the little contact where the VR connects to the alternnator body and reassemble. I inspected the D+ wire where it connects to the alt.....no chafing or bare wiring. I reinstalled it in the car and it's working fine. I still have a bearing going bad so I will still change it when the weather gets better. I am going to use the 93 for a core charge and keep the old 97 and get a bearing for it so it will be my new spare. I drove the Aero a couple hundred miles yesterday and it charged fine.
