Have you thought of purcahsing an engine form a salvage yard? Like Goldwing or others? I am sure you could find a used engine. Afterall it is a used car. $7500 is close to 50% of what the car is worth. The engine R&I is fairly easy on the 9-3 with a 5 speed. I too beleive Saab should come to the table but seeing that you are the 3rd owner my guess is that they are going to leave you twisting in the wind. We could all be driving Honda or Acura or some other buzzy Jap rig. However, sometimes having a bright blue Saab Viggen has it's price. The 9-3 is not known to be a reliable car and the 900NG before it is on the CR used cars "NOT TO BUY" list. Buying one of these care is a gamble to begin with. That said,I love them and continue to buy them because they are great cars for the most part and are a very good deal as used cars because of worse than average resale. You have to take the good with the bad. Put in a used engine and hope for the best.
