That's a crock if people think hitting redline from time to time is going to blow up your motor. Downshifting too low, and forcing engine speeds above redline, that's another story. I have a '72 Porsche 911. I can drive the car to the track and run it up to redline a dozen + times....and then drive it home at the end of the day. And this is a 33 year old vehicle.
Some of these motors have issues. And while we can speculate all we want, only Saab likely knows the truth....unfortunately, we won't ever hear it.
You don't hear about BMW M3 owners wondering why their engines blew up do you??? No, it's not happening. I love Saabs (own one) and the Viggen. So I'm not here to bash the brand. Just pointing out the obvious.
