I've been lurking reading the posts.... Only thing I would say is: get a warranty for 90 days!!!! And have them show you that the crankshaft is not scratched to smithereens; (or will be polished if necessary); that any connecting rod bearings and main bearings have been replaced; that the cylinder walls are not scored where it won't hold compression; the cylinder head is not warped; piston rings are in good shape; pistons aren't cracked where the pin goes through the piston; compression test on the head (to make sure it's not cracked); and compression test on the engine after it is rebuilt to make sure it's still holding compression.
And make sure they replace all the gaskets!
Doing the clutch replacement with the engine out is good practice and will save you $1000 in the future.
