...to be rolled out in both sedan and hatch form. But that increases development and production costs for an abnormally small car company that is hemmorrhaging cash and not capable of rolling out 2-3 variants oin the same platform in a short period of time. Plus, Saab wants to get into the compact sport wagon market, and a hatch would cannibalize sales.
I'm not happy with the decision, but I think it reflects an unfortunate reality of modern automobile manufacturing. People who can afford a luxury car want a wagon, not a hatchback, when they look for load carrying and versatility -- even in Europe.
