From 87 until 95 I owned both an 87 Saab 900 and an 86 Pontiac Gran Am. I bought both new. We put 15-20 k miles on each per year. I had the Saab serviced at a great dealer and the Grand Am at a likewise good independent shop in the Boston area. The Grand Am service costs averaged about 30-50% less than the Saab, but after 120,000 miles the Grand Am was used up and rusting out. I sold it for $900. I still have the 900. My teenage daughter drives it. It just passed 240,000 miles. Now I own four Saabs.
