If you bring your Saab to a dealership to get fixed, yes you will get hosed. But most of us here, if not working on the cars on their own, we all know of a "special mechanic." There are little shops that specialize in Saabs all over the place, and in that respect, they won't charge more than what they charge for anycar.
Now one factor to keep in mind is that yes, these cars can run forever, but not without proper care. So a Saab with a 150k miles on it will probably take more maintenance than a honda with 50k on it. But that much newer honda is still no where near as nice a car in my opinion.
As for affordability, I'm 26, on my second saab. Bought the first while still in college, and am certainly not wealthy now. Maintaining a saab is not as bad as what people make it out to be (mostly those who have never owned one).
Good luck
Adam
