Wow, riding in the dark has never appealed to me but the snow doesn't bother me much. I cannot decide if it's very brave, or foolish. I seem to run into things in the dark just walking. My friends even jokingly gave me a glow in the dark helmet with a headlamp and a note saying" If found, please return to..."
Interesting point about the backpack. Maybe it does not work well for me because I have my straps the opposite way; tight. I'm usually on my road bike when I do this and my bars are very low so the pack is literally sitting on top of my back and sometimes slides down to either side on me. The sudden shift of weight is dangerous. I'll try extending the straps instead.
