It would seem that hybrids might make excellent vehicles with worthwhile longterm cost savings in certain businesses, but nothing visible is happening. I would think hybrid would be ideal for mail/parcel delivery vehicles due to lower speeds and frequent stopping. It could also be good for taxies in urban areas too. These sort of users would get lots of use before any battery's expiration date. I am sure there are other users too.
Around here, I think USPS flatbeds their little aluminum delivery vans to a location 2 hours away just to change the oil.
Of course, we can't forget about the small minority who will glad pay extra for the coolness factor. It might not be logical, but such people always exist.
