Sorry to give you the news but blame no one but yourself. From reading your post above, you've done all the wrong things any shopper could have done. As Elliot stated, they didn't twist your arm to drive the 150 miles and you drove down because it was possibly too good a deal to pass. You didn't call and you didn't get their affirmation that the car was ready to pick up. I also assume you didn't leave a deposit on the phone the first time, didn't sign any papers, etc .. at that point in time so why would they prep the car already. The second time around you made the same mistake, drove down again without picking up the phone and making sure the car was ready (although they promissed a week ago it would but they're human) and now you ask them to pay your lunch, gas, and another $250 for some coupon you held on to until pay time after negociation was done the first time around. That upset them to the point they nuked their agreement with you so when you took it to the local dealership they had you a not-so-good surprise and made you cover the cost of repairs. After all, had you gave them a day or two extra they could have done the repairs in their own shop at a fraction of the cost. I still think they should reimburse you for the repair cost but I'm only hearing your side of the story so maybe there's more to it ... etc ...
Next time try to call ahead of time and give people a second chance. We all can slip on our deadlines and are usually given an extension to complete the work at hand.
