The whole concept of giving referrences is to pick people who are going to say you are an amazing worker. Why this woman did not even ask you for permission to be a referrence up front puzzles me.

I got a good referrence of a person we hired, but found out two weeks later that the woman referrenced was his girlfriend. Boy if you can't find anyone to say something good about besides your girlfriend, you are in trouble.

As far as saying nothing to cover your back incase of some legal thing that may or may not happen later. I say be truthful not mean.

You can say you really don't know why this woman pick you as a referrence, apparently she thought she was a much better employee than you did, Than offer you have nothing els to add
