I couldn't agree more. Few things annoy me as much as preaching about how moderate and responsible speeders are lawbreakers who deserve points and fines. (The worst is getting it from the trooper who just wrote you up and is cruising at 100 back to the barracks). The speed laws in this country are taxes, pure and simple, that have no basis in reality and don't deserve to be followed. You can tailgate, talk on your cell phone, weave in and out of traffic, never use a turn signal, and cut people off - all without risk - but God help the poor soul who tries to cover long distances at 85 on an empty highway.
And enough with "the cop cut Chadwick a break." Everyone knows the hard part of a ticket is the points and insurance for years to come, not the $50 off the ticket.
This kind of ridiculousness is why Mike Valentine was named one of the 10 Best Friends of the Automobile.
