Yeah, this is along the lines of my thinking. I figure framing the shell, digging and pouring the foundation - these are the things that I'd have contracted out anyway so starting with an old farmhouse gets these out of the way.
Sheep are great at clearing pastures. (see also "All Flesh is Grass") The notion of a lawnmower, that takes no gas to run and that I can turn into food or a sweater in the fall is very appealing.
Radiant systems are normally closed hot water circuits right? That doesn't sounds as efficient as a forced air furnace. (can't really turn a radiant system down to 50F when I go to work)
What I'm completely ignorant of right now is how to estimate costs. This is normally done in price per square foot right? I uppose I should look for a construction materials estimator text?
