This is also often referred to simply as the D70/D70s kit lens. It is considered a pretty decent lens for a resonable price. 18-70 a very practical range for a general purpose zoom and is worth covering. I rather have this lens over the 18-55 for both both the range and somewhat higher quality.

Shoot with this for a little bit and think about what you want to add. You could fill out the range with one of 70/80-200 lens available or if you want to keep it cheap you could still go with the 55-200 you are considering if that still seems reasonable.

If I was getting the D50 right now and didn't have lenes for it I'd get the body only and either this lens (18-70 DX) or the 18-200 VR (but this is at least double the price and hard to find right now).
