I agree with all other responses, and would like to add that you may want to also consider the pocket point-and-shoot cameras. Afterall, the best camera is the one you have with you when you need it. Another advantage of these little cameras is the preview of the screen which you don't have on the DSLRs. (see below) Biggest disadvantage, to me, is the small sensor/lens, resulting in a big depth of field, making it impossible to separate object from background.
While Nikon D50 and Canon get more favorable test results on the DSLRs, if you change the lenses often, you may want to consider the Olympus, it clean the sensor by itself. If you want a DSLR with live preview, then wait for the Olympus E330.
Compact Flash cards are bigger and harder, but I would not worry about SD cards. They are more popular with smaller cameras, if you have a second/pocketable camera, it would be nice to have teh same cards.
