One of the things that has always bugged me about Japanese cars is their propensity to rust. You'd think they could could figure this out. After all, we know what causes rust.
They aren't as bad as they used to be, but most of them--at least in harsher climates--still turn into rust buckets. When I finally donated my '84 C900 it had one slightly rusted fender lip, a fair bit of surface rust under the hood and a few spots needing attention. This after 20 New England winters including 10 years living a mile from the ocean and having been driven on an ocean beach several times.
Mike claims Ashai and Sapporo beer cans, but they are aluminum. More likely Japanese cars are made out of recycled Fiats and Cinzano ash trays with minimal painting.
I actually considered a Suby and a Mazda 6 wagon before we pulled the trigger on the 9-5, but when you look at it long term--keeping the car 10 years or so--there is no other option.
