I am a Saab fan, particularily the 80's Saabs, but durable, by your definition, they are not. Early parts failure (under 100k) is expected on a Saab, In my experience, Japanese car parts outlast the useful life of the vehicLE. I've only had a handful, but none of them needed more than brake pads under 100k.
Saabs are durable, but not by that definition. They are durable in that the satisfaction of ownership lasts beyond the useful life. I was never sad to replace a Japanese car. I've kept my all my Saabs, except my ng900 and 9-5, way beyond what was practical.
I still hope for a new direction at Saab back to those old values. Untill that time, I'll "enjoy" the quality, reliability, and dependability of Japanese cars.
