By durability I mean long lasting. There is a reason you see so many Saabs with 200K, 300K and more miles on them, it's primarily because people WANT to drive them that long. The real question is why, and that's where durabilty comes in. The typical Japanese car with 100,000 plus miles functions just fine, it's just that the body is starting to rust, the interior is looking not so good, the alloy wheels are all corroded, when you go to work on them the nuts and bolts are all rusty. They just get to a point where you simply don't WANT to drive them anymore. Well cared for European cars routinely look like new even with 200K. Depreciation is the real expense when it comes to cars, not repairs. It's a lot cheaper to drive a Saab(or other European car) ten years and 150k than it is to get a new Accord every five years and that's what most people just don't get. While an Accord will make it that far and cost less to do so, most people who buy them new trade them long before that.
