cheapest way to own car? Not a lease?

What's the cheapest strategy to own a car? My current plan is:
1. Buy new Saab, keep it 12 years, sell it for about $2,000.
What about
2. Buy 3 year old formerly leased Saab, keep it 9 years? (I don't want to keep a dying car on life support and my observation is that cars usually lasts 12 years if maintained, have good karma, and not driven too much)
How does that compare with:
3. Lease a new car for 3 years (expensive?)
4. Buy a new car for 6 years (still not cheap)
5. Buy a former lease and drive it for 3 years (get an old car yet not that economical?)
6. Buy a new car for 3 years (expensive but how does that compare with 3).
I think I will never do 6 because I hate to break in cars. It takes me a 6 months of grandma-type driving.
