One truth is in your last part of the rant. Any good excuse to stop a car and make a quick check of the papers might very well net a bigger crook than just a rolling stop one.
I was ones stopped on my home street a few hundred yards from my house. My crime, I had a Wunderbaum air freshener hanging from my rear view mirror which is a no no.
Ok, I was driving my favorite car at the time, a 78 Lincoln Continental MkV so that was probably why he wanted to check me out.
He asked me to step out and searched me, not just ask for the license through the window.
I thought it was odd but my friends were laughing since they called it The Pimpmobile.
