i did the same thing but the cop was much much closer,
he was standing in the middle of the intersection of the four way stop, just watching the traffic flow.
the area i was in was heavy construction.
as i proceeded through the inter section (mind you i to did not come to a full stop) as i reached the cop standing there he waved me to pull over.
now i have done this so many times it was to me second hand nature and when the cop asked me if i know why he waved me aside i said no.
he proceeded to say i did not come to a full stop at the sign at which point i coward in apologies.
he understood i didnt mean to run the sign intentionally and i didnt even realise i had done it and then proceeded to say that its not the point that i ran the sign, the point was the insult you gave me.
the down right disregard of a law enforcement officer to take no never mind and run the sign, he proceeded to say he felt as if i just gave him the middle finger.
after he stated this i was shocked. there was no intention on my part at all to insult this officer or any officer for any-reason for that matter.
i thanked him for the words he said and assured him i would never intentionally run a sign and for now on would defiantly have more awareness of my actions when a enforcement officer is around.
he smiled and waved me on.
your officer may have thought you saw him clear as day at the dealership and your disregard to stop was the middle finger in his face.
we forget or at lest i do that the enforcement officers are human also.
