The exact same thing happened to my VW. It has 15 spoke wheels, every other spoke a ding from buying new tires. I bought new tires in the dead of winterm so I wasn't spending any time handwashing it. A few months later, I discovered the damage. I was about to make a fuss, but I figured it would be just too much hassle to get satisfaction from them given the delayed discovery of the damage, even though it was my first time replacing a cars original tires...i.e., I kept the wheels perfect since I bought the car new.

I'd bet the majority of tire changes, especially at shops that sell tires as their main business, on modern design alloy wheels result in damage to the wheel. I'd also bet that 80% of the customers never notice. Another 20-25% get angry but do nothing, and then 5% hold the shop responsible. Good for you for being the latter!

It's hard finding people who will treat your car with respect. Really, really hard. The next time I take a car with mint condition wheels to get new tires, I'm going to the dealer. Even if I pay more, I think it would be much easier to hold them responsible. I looked out at my car as the tire shop was working on it...the knuckledragging kids looked half asleep, how could I have expected anything different?
