Wish they had that type of machine at Discount Tire where I take my 1999 which has has the non ceramic type pads since new and the wheels are permanently coated with brake dust, maybe that kind of equipment could help clean them as I've been too lazy .

However my 2004 with clean wheels has had 2 sets of tires done at discount with no damage whatsoever.

But I had a huge run in with discount tire when I had to replace tires for my former Honda Passport - now my sons. We called them and they said they were match Tire Racks prices on Michelin Latitude Tires - I've done this in the past of my Saabs and they were willing to be competitive, but in this case they lured us in by promising to match prices on the phone - but once in the store with everyting totaled up they were nearly $ 160 more than Tire Rack with having a local shop mount and balance. And they store manager kept saying he was matching tire rack's price of $ 106 per tire - but they wanted $ 35 for mount & balance and a whole lot of other stuff.

So it looks like in the future I will be buying tires from Tire Rack.

Good luck with your wheels though - it's a hassle you shouldn't have to be put through.
