Thanks, this is the kinda stuff I needed. We are pretty set on the granite counter tops. The cabinets were of the up graded materials, 1/2 in plywood construction (it's the rear panel that really adds strength to the cabinet), full face design, maple doors.
I am at that stage where I am looking for prices on the cabinets while I look for contractors. I am sure the big box stores are probably close in price. I don't know how a small one contractor shop could beat them, but I am going to be looking for other sources and manufacturers. Right now the one manufacturer has a 10% discount- about $1000, available. The sales person said she has never seen this manufacture offer this before. Maybe the economy has them worried.
I have one advantage, I have an old autodesk kitchen design program, works well enough for me to bring a floor plan with me to shop.
