That said, the cost to build one today would be high.

It's not surprising there's cost cutting... a 9-3 today costs about the same as a 900 did in 1990! Many euro cars are similar... cost cutting gets them there...

btw, our c900 has lots of electrical gizmos that break after many years (granted, it's a 1993, not 1981)... power windows no big deal, but among other things, central locking, and even just the damn turn/brake signal lights in the sedan can be a pita... it is nice that you can pop the top on the switches, clean the corrosion, pop the cap back on + everything works again! would be nicer if they had just silver plated the contacts to begin with!! But it is a great car to own and I agree it would be cool to see a new Saab that made reference to it!
