While what you say has a ring of truth to it, by your logic, one can argue that you are only a good customer if you buy a new one every couple years + crash it, destroying it beyond repair.

If you buy new + keep it forever + don't buy again for 20 years (SAABs last a long time), are you supporting SAAB much more than the regular CPO buyer? If you buy new every 3-4 years + don't keep the car in a massive private collection, the money you get at trade-in/end of lease differential is part of what you pay for your new car. That money comes from the CPO sale. So you need the regular CPO buyer! And the regular CPO buyer needs the bottom-feeder to buy their car + contribute to their purchase. For the most part, the CPO buyer can't afford new + the bottom-feeder can't afford CPO. That $1000 classic 900 sold on CL contributes to the sale of a brand new car... not a lot, but as much as the bottom-feeder is willing to bear. Most of the people buying + maintaining 20 year old SAABs would probably like to own a new one but don't have the financial capability to do so (or if not, might also own a new one).

That said, I have said it before, I am probably the worst customer! I just spent part of my Sunday modifying a worn out 1989 900s turn signal wand (drill out rivets, disassemble, dremel track, drill/tap for 2-56 + reassemble) so that it works nicely again and is easily repairable in the future... and it's the 3rd wand I've modified... but I make up for my lack of $$ spent on new SAABs in the form of free advertising, and that free advertising is partly why Spyker bought SAAB and not Pontiac.
