There are plenty of people who will buy new Saabs. Some of them hang out on sites like this, but most are just folks who'll buy Saabs as an alternative to something else. Two reasons Saab sales have slipped in recent years are the zero marketing support from GM and that there were no truly new models released, and the buying public likes to see new sheetmetal. So as new Saab models come out, and confidence is rebuilt in the brand (i.e., that it's going to be around) sales will go up. The plan is to sell about 100-120K cars a year which is hardly an unreasonable goal when the most recent total is 93K.

Many of us here buy CPO cars. That's not something to criticize. We all buy what we can afford. And those CPO cars were likely turned in on new Saabs, so buying a CPO car supports the sale of newer cars. Just curious, but how many new Saabs have you purchased?

And having older Saabs doesn't mean you aren't helping the brand. Having 4 long-running Saabs in my family, from a '95 to an '03, tells my friends and neighbors that these are solid, reliable, durable cars. That counts, too. People ask me about them.

As for doing most of one's own repairs, so what? I use Saab or equivalent parts and with 40 years of wrenching behind me my work is of professional quality. My sense is that most people here also do good work on their cars. And anyway, the majority of Saab owners take their cars to dealers or indy shops. Why would anyone go to a dealer once the car is off warranty? FWIW, My #1 indy is a Saab-only shop that's been around for 17 years and is doing fine. He said his best advertising/marketing was the (now closed) Saab store 2 miles down the street.
