I am in central New Jersey and three years ago there was a heavy storm and the power went out for about 12 hours starting around 10 pm. My son and I took turns all night scooping water out of the sump pump hole.
I looked into options and went with a battery operated sump pump that kicks in when the power goes out. It is automatic and I do not have to be home for it to work. It works off a deep charge 12 volt battery that is hooked up to a charger so that it's ready when needed.
I went with a unit made by Wayne (no relation) and sold by Northern Tool. I sourched the battery locally.
It worked perfectly when we lost power last night. Works for me.
Let me know if you have any questions.
