I've won enough... Posted by Larry West [Email] (#1140) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Larry West) on Tue, 22 Jun 2010 07:48:53 In Reply to: ebay strategy, James, Mon, 21 Jun 2010 17:46:06 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
...with using my strategy, that I don't see a need to change. I really don't think that I would have gotten anything for less money than I paid, no matter if it was at my top price, or at a lower price.
If I win an auction with my top price (let's say $50), that means that someone else bidding against me had to bid to the next lower whole increment! The only way I end up paying $50 for it, would be if they bid up to $49.99, or if they bid $50 after I did. If they only bid $48, and the increment is $1, then I still only pay $49.
If I lose because it goes over my high price, that's perfectly fine. If I only wanted to pay $50, and the bid goes to $51, someone else wanted it more, and they likely got it. They're happy, I know I put in my best bid, and it was bettered. No shame in that.
Every bid made on an auction item was made because that bidder is willing to pay that price for the item. So what is the difference if I bid my $50 on day 1 of a 10 day auction, or at 9 days, 23 hours, 59 minutes and 55 seconds? If nobody else is willing to top me, I still get the item.
Sniping works when you're up against other snipers and lowball bidders. Against larger proxy bidders like myself or davaidm, I'm sure it helps sometimes, and I'm sure it doesn't others.
