I tip essentials, but I am reminded of an old 1950's post WWII flick where there was a diner and in the background was a sign "Tipping is unAmerican".

You tip people who deserve it, but you should not feel compelled to tip.

I am becoming more and more annoyed with our culture that rewards mediocrity and makes the uninspired/unworthy feel a sense of entitlement.

ALSO, it is 15%, not 18-20% at a restaurant, and ONLY if the staff deserve it and ONLY if I know the establishment is not collecting a % (which some places do despite it being illegal).

For some reason the % creeps up with some people.

That is not acceptable, despite what the useless wine critics and magazine writers and ex-chefs say in print.

My good friend is an upper class chef who owns and runs his restaurant.

He only tips 15%.

Remember, a tip is a bonus... Do you get a bonus every day after a successful day at work?
