I enjoy the hyperbolic analogies, you always have a colourful way of putting things, and I get what you're saying... but clearly we are going around in circles.
Lowering tax is absolutely stimulus. If you pay less tax, you have more money to spend in the economy. That is the economic definition of stimulus. But I agree it is a *relative* stimulus (just like for the horse). So is expenditure! Conversely, raising tax is a fiscal drag. I'm certain you'd agree to that one! You can't have it both ways...
For a given bundle of services, one needs a balanced budget to pay for them. Whether it is balanced annually or cyclically is all I am debating here. I recognize that the US has probably run a structural deficit for many years (decades?), and if so, that it is something that needs to change, and I applaud you for supporting that, but it does not refute my pov... The size of that bundle of services + associated budget is of course a separate debate (in which we differ somewhat in pov, though possibly not as much as you might think)... that said... I don't think you could even get to zero tax + zero expenditure in a libertarian utopia... will the elected placeholder official(s) work for free? you see... I don't see this as black and white...
this is a fairly long-standing economic debate. I don't think we're going to solve this one here on Saabnet ;-)
