Ok Ayn Rand / Milton Friedman Worshipers:
Why is it ok to seek the lowest possible price (meaning greatest value) but not try to put in price protections? Both are part of free markets... trying to seek the most value for what you are buying and selling. Companies try to protect price all the time. If labor is just another input, why not unionize to get scale & negotiating power & do the same.
Yes, there is corruption in unions... Yes there are inefficiencies in unions... Yes unions have their problems... but the exact same things can be said of plenty of businesses... and neither is right. Unions are not inherently evil, no more than businesses are.
Some would have to you believe that the Free Market system is flawless & perfect. But it is not... such as the tenant that for "perfect" markets one needs "perfect" information, and perfect information does not exist, and that people are "perfectly" rational and well that is far from true. In in reality the Free Market system is what they say about democracy... it is the worst possible system except for all the others.
