In a full bankruptcy liquidation sale (like now), the new buyer can moth-ball the plant in Trollhatan, and let the workers receive unemployment payment from the Norwegian government until the new product (entirely GM-free) is ready for production. It would be in the Norwegian government's interest to make those payments as they'd have to pay the workers unemployment benefits anyway (if nobody buys the plant), and any attempt to force the liquidation buyer to pay workers before production is ready would just result in another buyer shipping the entire factory somewhere else (to India/China/Brazil/Turkey/Russia, what have you) instead of saving these jobs and tax revenue base in the long run.
All four candidates that I mentioned, Audi/VW, BWM, MB, and Toyota, can have existing/under-development platforms ready for production with Saab badge in a matter of months, and all of them have far more credible platforms than GM parts bin (or even Subaru). Buying at the bankruptcy liquidation sale, the buyer is also in a very good position to negotiate with the dealer network.
