that's kind of it... they are probably fine for what they are, as you describe... the turbos are a nice touch + they are starting to develop their own style (vs just copying from other brands, though there is still some of that)...

I think the Kia/Hyundai thing touches some nerves here, as there are some disgruntled former saab owners that made that switch, + then post back comparing their brand new acquisition as "so much better and more reliable" than a 10 year old model saab (that you and I would probably still prefer)... Many of them came to Saab during the GM years + bought sedans, which, are not really the Saabs that make Saab Saab (if that makes sense, and btw, I can say that owning 3 saab sedans through circumstance more than choice!)... It's harder to compare an optima to a 9000 hatch, or 9-5 wagon... anyway, my point is GM effectively diluted the brand in the last decade, turning off some loyalists (no hatch - many turned to Subaru), while attracting new value oriented luxury sedan buyers (selling 9-3ss as a cheaper alternative to BMW, Audi, Merc, and Lexus)... a significant fraction of the latter group is more fickle + inclined to jump to the next near luxury bargain, especially when things go wrong... recipe for disaster imho... at least, that's how I see it... You and I probably don't think this way, but when a long time Saab indy refers to the 9-3ss "a Malibu", that says something about what happened (I still think it's a darn nice car)...

The veloster is at least different, and seems to mimic a direction saab might have taken with a smaller car under Padian... so I can kind of see the appeal from that perspective... but not really my cup of tea either...

James...
