When I worked for VW, the regional service trainer and I were great pals. He left there some time after I did and wound up teaching auto trades at a local community college. With hands on the tools experience and the knowledge of automotive electronics I bet you could find a good opening if you poke around a bit. Be patient, put out some feelers and be persistent.
