Red rain is falling down on me. How do I say this without sounding too full of myself? Every dealership I have ever worked for has failed because they were inherited. I started at Stohlman in Alexandria VA. It's long gone. The son could not do what his father had tried to teach him. Then I went to Haywood/Clarke in Richmond VA and that was an inherited dealership. Again the son failed where his father had had great success. From there I came to Arizona(home) and worked for a conglomerate called Sun Automotive group. It later sold out to Penske. When Sun lost their SAAB franchise I went to Acura for a few months. They only hire at the lowest wage possible and they get what they deserve. Then I went to the last SAAB dealer standing in Phoenix. Saabdoc had beat me there by a few months. He worked for Sun as well for a time. Saabdoc and I worked at Camelback and it was not an inherited dealer, but it was failing due to family problems. They fired saabdoc because he sided with SAAB over the dealer in an obvious case of warranty fraud. He moved on to California and then we know what happened recently. In Phoenix the SAAB franchise was bought by Lund. Guess what? Lund inherited the dealership from his father. By all accounts that I have heard and seen, from Stohlman and Haywood/Clarke to Lund, inherited dealerships are run in to the ground by the boys that are left in charge. Daddy built a piggy bank and the little boys break it. In every instance the employees who were there under the father rain praise upon the old man who built the place and scorn upon the son. I think after 25 years I'm seeing a patern.
