I spent much of my life as a "suit" and also suddenly found myself unemployed. It turned out to be the boot in the *ss I needed to make some big changes in my life. Long story short I ended up doing something I absolutely love with great pay and benefits. It's a hard, empty feeling at first, so give yourself some time to adjust, but once you do, you might just come to feel as I did that losing that miserable job was the best thing that's happened to me in years. I imagine there are some trade schools in your area. Or have you ever looked into working for one of those mechanic schools that advertise in the car magazines? Even if you can get to teach one class part-time (or as a student teacher, intern, or volunteer) it can give you some experience that'll get you ready when something full-time turns up. Good luck, and FYI, I was 57 when I made the change.
