First of all, Fischer-Troppish process converts natural gas to some sort of liquid fuel. It has nothing to do with "electricity storage" media you were talking about.
Second, even as a source of fuel it is not very efficient. If works for some countries like Saudi Arabia where they get so much natural gas that they do not know what to do with it (currently they just burn the excess in the air). In the US it makes much more sense just to use CNG as a fuel directly - which they do in many commercial fleets, or use it for heating instead of oil.
Just like electricity-to-hydrogen production works for some countries with free near-free electricity (e.g. Iceland).
