Right, there is no magic ingredient in Saab seats. Like other seats they are foam, fabric, and some type of springy metal.
But it is the shape and size of the seat, the kind of foam used, how it is shaped, where the firm and soft sections are that make a seat better or worse. Seat comfort is not an illusion, and there's a reason why people who are used to seats in Saabs, Volvos, BMWs, etc., complain about the seats in other cars.
Unless one is blessed with a body that is comfortable in any seat, there is a big difference in car seats. I find Japanese seats in general to be too soft and too short in the seat bottom and lack lumbar support or have it in the wrong place for my 6'2" frame. The Prius seats aren't too bad in the bottom cushion but there's little lumbar support. Lateral support is also lacking. But that's true for most econoboxes.
Any seat can feel OK for an hour or so. But its how they feel for an all day drive that makes the difference.
