If you honestly believe the Gen V LT1 is the result of laziness, you're insane. The LT1 is a virtual masterpiece of packaging, efficiency, and output. It weighs less than 100lbs more than a B235 w/ turbocharger, equals the Viggen in fuel economy (19/27/21 vs 17/29/21), and the LT1 takes up just INCHES more room room horizontally while shaving several inches vertically - reducing the CoG by those same inches in the process. The bottom line is that it packs just about double the output of the B235 into the same overall space while equaling its fuel economy. DOUBLE.
Back in the day, FIA instantiated the rule that cars with forced induction be rated at 1.4x their actual displacement for the purposes of comparing them to naturally aspirated cars. The B235 would be considered a 3.2l motor under this rule, so its output would be (wait for it) 72hp/l and 81 lb ft/;. Not that different from the LT1.
And, if you've not driven the last decade of small blocks, you can't even begin to understand the difference in throttle response and low-speed torque. The Viggen is VERY impressive in its power delivery, but it's *nothing* compared to a GenIV motor much less a GenV. All the torque and all the power all the time - no lag, no worries about engine speed, not really even much worry about what gear you're in. Just power everywhere.
The Corvette and its V8 may or may not be for you, but it's positively nuts to try and create a scenario where its somehow inferior to the B-series motor. Double the power at the same fuel consumption FFS!
