No denying the 230 hp in the Viggen has more HP/liter than the base Corvette engine, but no one buys just the engine. And the Vette will still smoke a Viggen in most situations...even though it really doesn't matter on the street.
What would be more interesting is a 400+ HP turbocharged 4 or 6 cylinder in a Corvette. But a turbo motor will always be more expensive that a NA engine of similar power, even though the NA engine will be larger displacement. That cost difference means the bean counters will usually win. Plus, in the case of the Corvette, there's a legacy of V8 engines which is tough to overcome. And when it comes to fuel mileage, a mid-range C6 or C7 Corvette can deliver similar mileage, so the penalty for the big V8 isn't what it once was.
Plus, who the heck cross-shops a Viggen and a Corvette?
