I just don't believe that magical cyclones can provide for as much filtration as a dedicated bag. I have an old style Electrolux canister, it uses bags and a post-fan filter, a setup I'd really be surprised if any bagless machine can match. In my experience bagless machines' various filters, sponges, etc need very frequent cleaning in order for them to even work correctly. Admittedly I have limited experience with Dysons specifically.
So yeah, if getting dust out of your home is the goal, get a good bag vacuum with pre and post-fan filters. Something like an Aerus (the "old style" Electrolux), Miele, Sebo, etc. If the OP is going to the trouble of changing out the flooring in his home (FWIW I think replacing carpet with hard surfaces may not be the way to go but that's another thread) the cost of a higher-end machine and replacement bags shouldn't be a big concern.
