I try to do that also, but I find that some years, the snow falls regularly enough that the roads are messy much of the winter... so it can mean a lot of trips to the car wash. I would hose it myself but it is usually too cold to still have a hose outside and tap turned on.
I am thinking of running the summer car a bit this winter. I think it is better for it to take it out for a drive once in a while on a sunny dry day than to let it sit (hard on brakes etc). I have had some luck in preventing brake seizure by rolling the car in the garage every couple of weeks. But it is sometimes hard to motivate myself to do that in the dead of winter!
