Does school make a recommendation for Mac OS or Windows? Worth checking.
I have no idea what Dell offers, but when my daughter got a MacBook for college we got the Apple Care plan. That covered just about everything for 3 years, including two instances when she knocked the computer onto floor and crashed the drive. Each time, a few days later she gets a computer back with a new drive and misc other stuff fixed. No charge, and the school had a loaner for her to use.
And if you are doing remote tech support, which system do you know best? Do you already have software your kid would use at school?
