Resale value of VW Diesels has been abnormally high for years, which is one of the main reasons that I didn't buy my friend's leased Jetta TDI Wagon when the lease was done (that and I still loved my 9000 Aero). I have a feeling that the values have been more than 20% over what they should be.

Meanwhile, I have a 20-something year old niece who just bought her first brand new car: a VW Jetta gas engined car. I saw her yesterday and she is extremely upset that she's driving a "car made by cheaters" - if this is the general perception, all VWs are going to be taking a hit.
