Maybe on the small side for your needs, but the VW Alltrack is worth looking at. I've had one for a little over a year now. The jury was out when I first got it, but I have come to like it. A lot. It is decent to drive, gets good fuel mileage, utilitarian, AWD. I have no idea what new or used prices are like for them right now, but it is not an expensive car to begin with.
