After a LOT of effort, we finally got this resolved. Here's what happened:

1.) Local mechanic in Zanesville apparently completely at sea on this, and luckily, refused to proceed.

2.) Nearest big city is Columbus, Ohio, with several foreign car repair shops, but no Saab-savvy ones I could turn up. The guy in the Saabnet directory is no longer in business.

3.) Bernie's shop was only 155 miles away, so we used our AAA Premier benefits to tow the car there, but not without problems, as AAA was initially unable to find a tow truck driver who had an INTERSTATE towing license. AAA's initial response, after a couple of hours of fruitless waiting around with the wagon in a friend's driveway, was to suggest that WE find a towing source, and they would reimburse us. I waved that one off, got in touch with a supervisor and eventually a truck showed up. I had a rental SUV with which to cart everyone back home to NY State.

4.) Bernie got into the car and found that most of the oil leak was from blow by & pcv box leaking.
He's going to install new oil trap/pcv box and all hoses & check valves. As long as he's got the car, we're going to get the front brakes done, plus, a new brake booster. When it's all buttoned up, we're going to have the wagon shipped back home.

Although I have been an infrequent poster/watcher for years, I just became a member of Saabnet. I really should have done this a long time ago, but just never got around to it - apologies.

You people are just the best!
