Thanks! Bernie, of course, gave it a careful evaluation before recommending the repairs. We currently have one Saab Master Tech in town, who works 3 days per week at a local repair shop. So anything we need locally is still OK for the time being.

Although there are still 3 Saab 9-5 wagons in our immediate family (2 here and one with our son in MA, currently being tinkered with, not a daily driver anymore), I no longer have my own Saab - I'm just driving the wife's when I need to go somewhere. Otherwise, I ride a Surly fat bike to commute. I do miss my '01 9-5 Aero...
